Keith Davison, the now retired president of Xplor International, the Electronic Document Systems Association, once said that:

Kofax Reports Financial Results for Fiscal 2011

Kofax recently reported its financial results for fiscal year 2011 (the twelve months ended June 30, 2011). Leading Industry Analyst Confirms Kofax's Growing Market Share

In its latest report, Harvey Spencer Associates, the leading analyst firm covering the capture market, finds that Kofax has continued increasing its share of the capture software and services market. The report, entitled "The 2011-2012 Worldwide Market for Document Capture Software," states that Kofax increased its overall market share to 15 percent in 2010 from 11 percent in the prior year. The report concludes that the market will expand from approximately $2.2 billion in 2010 to over $4.1 billion in 2015, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 13.5 percent.

Important PixEdit OCR Update

Recently there has been some important updates to the PixEdit OCR Module, in particular improvements in reliability during the OCR process.

We have done many tests over the past few weeks and pleased to say that we have seamlessly processed in excess of 200,000 pages using DocServer and OCR.

Using DocServer it is also possible for multiple PCs running PixEdit to process scans in the same (server) folder, hence speeding up OCR production on a particular job. Of course, each PixEdit can also run more than one queue too, so you could have 5 PixEdit DocServers OCR processing 20 of the same folders. This worked very well for us processing large numbers of documents unattended over a weekend.

By setting up more than one PixEdit OCR per scan folder this would also mean that should one PixEdit fail over a weekend, the other PixEdit(s) would continue processing.

So some very productive improvements and tips!

OCR Optical Character Recognition/Searchable PDF Files

Searchable text/OCR text is becoming more and more popular when scanning documents. Once a document is scanned, the text that is on the scan can be automatically recognised and stored so that the data can be searched at a later date. The best example of this is the use of PDF searchable files. Using the standard Acrobat Reader, an entire archive of searchable PDF files can be searched. Acrobat will then provide a results list of all the recognised occurrences of the word (or number) searched for. During normal viewing, the user is presented with the original document scan, the searchable text that was recognised on the document scan is stored behind the scan layer. The recognised text can also be copied out and pasted into an application such as MS Word where is can be edited as a normal Word document. This forms part of our document scanning service and is a highly cost effective way of creating a very effective solution.
The searchable PDF files can also have an Acrobat Catalogue built, this makes search large volumes of searchable text files much faster by combining the search data into a database.
We also offer OCR/Optical Character Recognition Services, where we scan the original document and return the file as both a Word document and also a searchable PDF.

Forms Processing and Automatic Indexing

The new forms processing module in PixEdit can be used for both Forms Processing and Automatic Indexing of scans. The template form in PixEdit can set up to recognise typed text, numbers or barcodes. PixEdits Docserver is then uses the Form Template to index the remaining batches of documents. The forms obviously need to have the index data written in the same place on each document, PixEdit will then effortlessly index thousands of scanned images for you automaically. The resultant index file may look something like this:
